Fun in the Valley

Napa Valley’s splendid 30-mile-long journey is best traveled by car, from Carneros at the southern end to Calistoga at the northern end, and flanked by the majestic Mayacamas and Vaca mountains. Make any car-rental arrangements well in advance, and be sure your agency tracks your flight in case of any delays and saves your vehicle until your arrive. Calistoga is famous for mud baths and the Old Faithful geyser, while Carneros typifies today’s reincarnated Napa lifestyle. It also offers the coolest climate with buffeting winds off San Francisco Bay. Located at the head of the Napa Valley, Mount St. Helena is a premier hiking, mountain-biking, rock-climbing, sightseeing and hang-gliding destination. The historical town of Yountville is only one-mile long and packed with a huge collection of trendy boutiques and fine-dining establishments. Napa is the Valley’s largest town, county seat and social centerpiece—the most popular of destinations frequented by visitors regularly. Surrounded by world-famous vineyards and rolling green hills, this quaint, historic city features a charming downtown district with unique shops, restaurants, galleries, live theater, historical buildings, nightlife and entertainment, all on the banks of the beautiful Napa River.

Outside Entertainment

When your taste buds deserve a vacation, day-trippers find the allure of San Francisco, about 45 minutes away, and its worldly attractions hard to resist. Equally appealing cities, such as Berkeley, Oakland, Sacramento and San Jose, each with its own set of attractions and spectacular sights are also a short drive away. Lake Tahoe, about three hours away, is chock-full of beaches, casinos, paddleboats and scenic hiking trails. Of course, the best way to see the outlying areas is by rental car, and you should make arrangements ahead of your departure. But bear in mind, you could spend your entire vacation exploring the Napa Valley area and still not see it all.
